Wednesday’s Sonnet: Assignation

He watches her dress and he helps her decide
What she wants to wear for the night
It isn’t as if anyone lied
He knows where she’s going and says it’s all right

She’s happy and that’s what he wants her to be
It’s hard to explain, one can only surmise
That a woman in love is a good thing to see
Even when you’re not the one in her eyes

He didn’t wait up but he awoke
When late she came through the door
Out of the bedroom darkness he spoke
“Glad you’re home” he said and no more

He didn’t ask her and she didn’t say
What exactly she does when she goes away
