I saw the future on television (and it didn’t look like this)

Late last night I’m thinking
Staring into space
Where the final frontier
Is waiting for a tardy human race
I’m wondering as I watching
Is something looking back at me
Or is all just vacancies
As far as the eye can see?

O, I saw the future on television
And it didn’t look like this
Floating homes and deep sea domes
Are just two things I miss
Flying cars and trips to Mars
And electronic bliss
I saw the future on television
And it didn’t look like this

I’m still waiting for my robot
And my wristwatch video phone
I want to teleport to work
When I’m sick send in my clone
Starships leaving daily
From here to everywhere
Crewed by green chicks with weird eyebrows
And gold lame’ underwear

Now that I think about it
This is probably just a dream
With electrodes on my forehead
Hooked to some machine
Programmed unreality
Pictures in my head
Designed by lumpy headed guys
In jumpsuits of bright red

Something must be very wrong
With how the world is run
When I’m living in the Twenty-First Century
Without a laser gun
Any moment now I’ll wake up
To find myself alone
Take an algae protein pill
And beam myself back home

Were you a fan of the Jetsons? I love this poem Misha 😉 Saw the link for the virtual autograph and went – oh, that’s what the future looks like? Unbelievable. Next you’ll tell me there’s software to read the book to me too – oh yeah, I think you already did!

Great poem! The Jetsons lied to us for years! Not to mention, throughout all their teleporting and other futuristic things, they used floppy disks the whole time.
