The Thing With Feathers

Yesterday I had my Ereader News Today promotion. I also had a number of you repost my sales announcement (for which I am very grateful.)

Amazon Best Sellers Best Metaphysical Fantasy eBooksThis resulted in Catskinner’s Book rapidly climbing Amazon’s Metaphysical and Visionary Fantasy category. (A category that I didn’t even knew existed.)

I actually made it as high as #34 on the chart, but I like the screenshot of my book sitting next to Neil Gaiman’s.

When I saw that I felt hopeful about the commercial viability of my work for the first time since I first launched Catskinner three years ago.  It felt good.

Then, of course, reality set in.

My total sales for the day was 22.

That is the best day I’ve ever had and in fact is more sales than I’ve made in most quarters in the past three years. However, if I sold that many books every day I still wouldn’t be making enough to live on.   Subtracting the 15$ that I spent on the promotion, I’m doing little better than breaking even.

*Sigh*

  1. Congrats on the ranking. Hopefully this kicks off a few more high sale days and you get higher on the list.

Misha … keep plugging away. You do this because you love it. A growing audience will come.

I saw you at #32 this morning. I’m thrilled. Once these readers have read, you most likely will get a few more by word of mouth. It’s a start 🙂 Just think. That was an opportunity to get the books noticed. The next one in a few months could be even better. It’s still more exposure. Building an audience is a slow process. Even when you sell hundreds during a promo, within a day or two you’ve flat lined. But strangers are reading your book and that’s always good. 🙂

This is great, Misha! Keep at it and believe in yourself and your work! I believe in you! 😀
