Prepping For Archon

I just wanted to give a quick shout out to the smart guy who runs Planetary Defense Command.

I will be staffing a sales table at the huckster’s room at Archon this year, and after I posted a picture of our snazzy new book rack, the smart guy referenced above commented,

I’m making an effort not to clutter up my home with any more physical books. If some of your con-goers are like me, you might want to give out a business card with the titles of the books and the authors’ names. This would help customers remember to make an order on their Kindle or whatever.

Well, I decided to take the idea and run with it, and behold, the first draft of my Kindle Card Bookmarks:

KindleCardsPic

Each bookmark will have the title and author, a thumbnail of the cover, a brief description, and the QR code to the Amazon sales page.  I am going to save the sheets as PDFs and have them printed on card stock, B&W, single sided, and use Kinko’s paper cutter to make them into bookmarks.  I figure 15 to 20 for each title.  At six a page, and 46 titles, that’s going to run $30 to $50 bucks all told.

I figure it’s worth it to get something tangible into readers hands that will make it easy to remember and purchase the title after the con is over.

  1. Dave Higgins says:

You might want to include the URL as well. Obviously, people can’t click on it, but it removes the psychological barrier of people not being bothered to search for the book by author+title.

I considered including the URL, but it occurred to me that someone who isn’t going to type “Catskinner’s Book” into Amazon sure isn’t going to type: “http://www.amazon.com/Catskinners-Book-Lost-Doors-ebook/dp/B008MPNBNS/” into their browser.

  2. After the con, let us know if the bookmarks are popular, and if you notice any post-con Kindle sales.
