It’s a small thing as these things go
Nothing to lose any sleep about
I don’t know why it hurts me so
Not that much to go without

It’s not as if God promised me
That what I want is what I’ll earn
Or guaranteed my life would be
Fair, or that I’d get my turn

I sometimes have to wonder, though
If hunger is to be my lot
If I’d known then what there is to know
If I would have agreed or not

Breathe deep and look away
Tomorrow is another day
