Mr. Mephistopheles, dressed in red
Wrote a letter to The Times
He considered carefully what he said
And mailed it with two shiny dimes

Miss Antigone, pretty young thing
Hung herself on the telegraph wire
For seven days they let her swing
Then cut her down and put her on the fire

Ham-fisted Jake played with a snake
Onsies, twosies, never let go
Until it bit him by mistake
When that happened he died slow

Mr. Mephistopheles put down his pen
Went to bed woke up and then
