The Wand That Rocks The Cradle

This summer Oren Litwen will be releasing his third anthology of genre fiction. His first was The Odds Are Against Us, an anthology of military fiction. With his second, Ye Olde Magick Shoppe, he elected to start his own imprint, Legrange Books.

I’ve got a story in the magic shop anthology, “Grand Theft: Nightmare”, and I am very pleased with the quality of the book, editing, design, formatting and so forth, as well as the quality of the stories themselves. Oren is a good publisher to work with and has a nice feel for the business of constructing an anthology, not just picking the best stories, but making sure that the stories fit together and are arranged in an esthetic sequence.

And so I am pleased to be part of his new project, The Wand That Rocks The Cradle. The call was for Fantasy stories with a theme of family. I’ll admit that at this time I haven’t read all of the stories he’s selected, but the ones that I have seen are of the quality that his earlier two projects have led me to expect.

My own entry is called “She That Was So Proud And Wild”. It’s set in the same universe as the magic shop story and it deals with some fairly heavy issues of life and death and what it means to be human.

But wait, there’s more!

Oren is running a Kickstarter campaign for the book’s launch, and he’s doing something that I think is pretty awesome. At the $10 level you get five additional stories, including another one of mine. These stories are Kickstarter exclusives, they won’t be in the Amazon release. (Now, I can’t say that they won’t ever be released somewhere, but if you want the bonus stories anytime soon, you’ve got to back the Kickstarter.)

I’m very pleased with my bonus story, too. It’s called “The Hopeful Bodies Of The Young” and it makes, I think, a nice bookend to the other one, similar themes, but from another perspective.

Honestly, I think it’s a good deal. I try not to promote crowdfunding campaigns in my blog unless I am confident that they are worthwhile. In this case I am sure that Legrange will deliver the finished product–he’s done it twice before–and I think that kicking in on the bonus level to get the additional stories is a good investment.

Remember, this exclusive offer is not available in any stores…
